vol 1. my favourite headlines on the internet rn.
a round up of news headlines and pop culture moments that you might've missed.
WE GOT OUR FIRST TEASER OF LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO (TAYLOR’S VERSION). This has made my MONTH. It was featured in the latest episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, you can watch the full clip here, (spoilers for s3, e9 of course.) I’m also in the camp that we are getting some sort of announcement at the AMA’s on May 26th. I’m clowning it’s reputation of course. Also, if you’ve never watched the music video for Look What You Made Me Do - you have to, it’s essential watching.
Elizabeth Holmes’s partner Billy Evans is trying to raise money for his blood testing startup, Haemanthus. This is so fucking ironic that I can’t even believe I’m writing this. Read more from The ABC here. Also, go watch The Dropout on Disney+ (which starsAmanda Seyfried) if you haven’t already.
US Vouge’s summer cover star is none other than Hailey Bieber. This is a brilliantly written profile that reveals a softer, more intimate side to her that we haven’t seen before. Hailey speaks on motherhood, protecting her peace and navigating a world of seemingly never-ending online hate. She also cleverly announced that Rhode would finally be coming to Sephora stores across the US, Canada and the UK later this year with this profile, genius.
Chamberlain Coffee’s matcha campaign. I actually have not stopped thinking about this campaign since I saw it. It is slightly eerie and uncomfortable and I’m kind of just obsessed with everything Emma does, also the details in this are *chefs kiss.*
This bee’s feature on the Cannes red carpet. Please scroll through all of these pics curated by Vulture, you won’t be disappointed. It also reminds me of the time when a cockroach crashed the 2023 Met Gala and was genuinely given air time.
NEW FRANK OCEAN INCOMING?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!??!!?!?? I will loose my mind if this is true. I’ll check back in after May 22nd and give you an update on notes if we find out more. See more from Wonderland here.
This point is technically two things:
The ‘Charlie XCX’ is taking me out.
This series from i-D about the ‘Things at Cannes you don’t see on Getty’ is hilarious and I found out that that there is no popcorn served at the world’s biggest film festival. Diabolical.
Buzz buzz, Yellowjackets has finally been renewed for season four. Thank GOD because we were left with a huge cliffhanger at the end of s3. Allie Daisy King (aka Extra Virgin) has a great Youtube essay on the series you should also watch.
Side note: I’m thinking of doing a full series rewatch soon and writing some commentary alongside it, so let me know if you’d be down for that.
The Mushroom trial. iykyk. The latest update in this case is that a death cap mushroom web page was visited a year before fatal lunch. The ABC has a great blog that you can follow along with developments of this case as they happen. The trial will resume next Thursday.
I will leave you with this article about how the Chicago Sun published (online and in print!) this AI generated summer reading list in which only five out of the 15 books were actually REAL. On this situation, NPR Books contributor and author Gabino Iglesias said “Pay writers, and then we can write these fake books that don't exist.”
Which is a perfect way to link to a shameless self plug… but if you liked this series and want more I’d love it if you could subscribe. This will be a regular series and I’d love to connect with more pop culture, news and media nerds <3
